VACANCY FOR DEPUTY SHELTER MANAGER

Help & Shelter is looking for a suitably qualified and experienced person to assist and deputise for the shelter manager as needed.

 

Purpose:

To ensure that the shelter is a welcoming, safe and comfortable place for abused women and their children and trafficked women and girls and to give them the space and power and skills to regain and rehabilitate their lives.

 

Functions

The deputy shelter manager will assist with/perform the following functions:

  • Manage all aspects of the operations of the shelter, including administrative functions such as maintaining records and keeping an inventory

  • Ensure that confidentiality is maintained

  • Supervise other shelter staff

  • Ensure that the rules and guidelines of the shelter are adhered to

  • Organise activities for residents including skills training and development

  • Support residents in making and keeping appointments with appropriate health and social service agencies etc.

  • Liaise with the police, ministries and governmental and non-governmental agencies as required for the safety and support of residents

  • Provide reports on all aspects of shelter operations

 

Requirements

  • Management, coordination and planning skills

  • Degree in social work/counselling/nursing qualifications and experience an advantage

  • Knowledge of domestic violence, child abuse and human trafficking and their effects

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Word & Excel and use of the internet

  • Basic accounting skills

  • Previous working experience with women and children would be an asset

  • Previous working experience in an institutional environment would be an asset

  • Fully vaccinated and boosted against Covid-19
