Help & Shelter has received over 3 million (GYD) from the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives to conduct Gender Equality sensitization in the communities of Mon Repos and Beterverwagting on the East Coast of Demerara. The goal of the project is to ensure Women and girls in these communities feel safer from SGBV through a school and community-based framework of prevention and response by December 2019.
The main project activities that will be conducted over a four month period commencing October 2019 are:
- Creative arts & sensitization SGBV program for in school youths
- Dissemination of IEC products (banners, posters, skits, debates, spoken poetry, dance) through in school youth peer education activities
- Lay counselling training for teachers
- Community capacity building workshop for service providers on gender based violence prevention and response
- SGBV focused awareness sessions for schools and community groups/organizations.
- On site psycho/social counseling and support
